Mobile for Good Awards: Recognising Innovative Mobile Solutions for Driving Social Change in India

The Vodafone Foundation is currently inviting the nonprofit organisations using mobile technology in the areas of m-health, m- education, m-governance and m-business for Mobile for Good Awards 2015.

The Mobile for Good Awards aim to recognise, promote and support mobile innovations for driving social change in India addressing health, education, agriculture & environment, women empowerment and inclusive development through unique innovations and usage of mobile & wireless related technologies.

Five winning NPOs solutions will receive access to funding & mentorship.

Objectives

  • Set up a sustainable, robust and scalable awards programme in India, highlighting Vodafone Foundation’s key focus – ‘Mobile for Good’ – in India
  • Recognise NGOs/NPOs, other social organisations and entrepreneurs that demonstrate innovation in mobile and wireless-related technology, to address critical social issues that are aligned to Vodafone Foundation’s strategic focus areas
  • Conceptualise and launch a first-of-its-kind Social Apps Marketplace for the social development sector.
  • Incubating award winners with credible partners from media, universities, start-ups and incubators, etc., to help them upscale and build capacity of their projects

Award Categories

The 2015 Awards consist of two Awards categories:

  1. Leading Change Maker – NPO Category
  2. Leading Change Maker – For profit category

Awards

  • The M4G Awards 2015 ‘Leading Change Maker- NPO Category’ winners will receive recognition, Awards grant and mentorship to winning NGOs/NFPs.
  • The total Awards Grant is Rs. 60, 00,000
  • This will provide five winning NGOs in the category (excluding government solutions winner) with access to crucial funding of INR 1,200,000 (twelve lakh rupees) each, over a period of one year.
  • In addition, the five winning NGOs (excluding sub category government solutions) will receive structured mentoring, monitoring and impact evaluation support from credible institutions, incubators, etc. to upscale and build greater capacity of their projects.
  • Winner in the ‘M4G Award 2015 for Achievement – Government solution’ category, who will receive a recognition certificate.
  • The five M4G Awards 2015 ‘Leading Change Maker- For profit Category’ winners will receive a recognition certificate.
  • All M4G Awards winners and finalists will get a chance to display their unique innovations in the Social Apps Hub that we will launch in 2015.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Indian registered NPO’s who have been registered on or before 30 June 2012 (three years from the announcement of awards).
  • All government agencies/ departments/ministries are eligible to apply under the separate sub category “Government Solutions”. However, there shall be no funding grant. The award to them shall be in the form of certificates/ souvenirs.
  • The project/initiative shall be based on Mobile platform or shall leverage mobile-based technologies.
  • The project/initiative shall be in operation/ implementation for a period of minimum 6 months (preferably 6 months to one year).
  • The applicants with FCRA compliance shall only be eligible to apply.
  • The NPO shall be capable of demonstrating the success, scalability and sustainability of their project (through documentations – success stories).
  • Previous winners of M4G Awards shall be applicable to apply only if the project/ solution is different from what they were awarded for and not otherwise.

TWAS Young Scientists Awards in Developing World

The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) is seeking applications form the participants for TWAS young scientists awards in developing countries. The objective is to recognize and support individual scientists in developing countries who have made excellent contributions to the advancement of science, measured in terms of the number and impact of scientific research papers published in internationally recognized journals.

TWAS shall make available a yearly amount of up to US$2,000 as prize money. TWAS provides financial assistance to national science academies, scientific research councils and ministries of science and technology to enable them to institute a scheme of TWAS prizes for young scientists.

TWAS was founded in 1983 by a distinguished group of scientists from the developing world. TWAS is a global science academy based in Trieste, Italy, working to advance science and engineering for sustainable prosperity in the developing world.

Australia’s Direct Aid Program (DAP) to Announce Soon! Small Grants Programmes for NGOs Worldwide

The 2015 call for proposals will be published in July-August

The Direct Aid Program (DAP) is a flexible small grants program funded from Australia’s aid budget and managed through 66 of the department’s overseas posts.

DAP is available on a not-for-profit basis to individuals, community groups, NGOs and other entities engaged in development activities in countries that are eligible for overseas development assistance. The program focuses on supporting small-scale development projects and activities that involve the beneficiaries in the identification, design and management of the projects.

The DAP is intended to Advance developmental outcomes in Official Development Assistance (ODA)-eligible countries with projects primarily focussed on practical and tangible results. DAP is administered through Australia’s overseas diplomatic posts on an annual (1 July – 30 June financial year) basis. In 2014-15 the total DAP budget is $22 million.

Funds Available

There is no minimum amount that a single DAP project can receive but the maximum is $60,000 over the life of the project. Activities may run up to a maximum of two years.

Thematic Areas of DAP Funding

  • Attention should be given to projects providing direct benefits to those most in need in the local community, including vulnerable or disadvantaged groups, children and youth.
  • DAP projects should be aimed primarily at achieving practical and tangible outcomes, such as on poverty alleviation, community health; schools/education; small-scale infrastructure; rural development; youth; gender equality, the environment and ad hoc humanitarian relief.
  • Projects that support people with disability to improve the quality of their lives through accessing the same opportunities for participation, contribution, decision-making, and social and economic well-being as others are strongly encouraged.

ICO Fellowships Program to help Promising Young Ophthalmologists

The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) is seeking applications for ICO Fellowships Program in order to help promising young ophthalmologists from developing countries improve their practical skills and broaden their perspectives of ophthalmology.The duration of the fellowship program is three months.
The program is intended to be flexible to meet the needs of different countries and individuals.

ICO’s Mission

ICO’s mission is to enhance ophthalmic education and improve access to the highest quality eye care in order to preserve and restore vision for the people of the world.

Award Information

  • ICO will provide an award of up to US$6000 to cover travel and living expenses for three months.
  • ICO will award approximately 60 three-month fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Ophthalmologists from developing countries are eligible to apply for the fellowship program.
  • Applicant must be under 40 years of age at the time of applying.
  • Applicant must return to home country after the training, resume previous positions, and apply the knowledge gained during the fellowship.

U.S Embassy Vienna-The Young Transatlantic Leader Exchange: Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program

Funding Information

The total funding available will be $125,000.

Program Goals

  • Foster entrepreneurship, leadership, and professional skills of young Austrians to become business or social entrepreneurs and/or leaders in their respective fields to support the expansion of entrepreneurial values in Austria.
  • Promote the awareness of future Austrian entrepreneurs of the entrepreneurial ecosystem as practiced in the U.S.

BTtoP Call for Proposals: Well-Being Seminar & Research Grants (2015-17)

Bringing Theory to Practice (BTtoP) is requesting proposals that address either of the two emphases described below for its 2015-2017 round of support.

BTtoP project encourages colleges and universities to reassert their core purposes as educational institutions, not only to advance learning and discovery, but to advance the potential and well-being of each individual student, and to advance education as a public good that sustains a civic society.

Grant Categories

Bringing Theory to Practice requests proposals in the following two categories for its 2015-2017 funding cycle:

  • Category I: Well-Being Seminar Grants
  • Category II: Well-Being Research Project Grants

Category I: Well-Being Seminar Grants

Deadline: 15 September 2015

Well-Being Seminar Grants up to $1,000 to provide support for campus-wide planning discussions (seminars) that give focused attention to a particular dimension of the well-being of those involved (students, faculty, or other leaders) in creating and maintaining an engaged culture for learning. Seminars should deepen participants’ understanding of the institution’s commitment to whole-person development and the learning-related policies and practices, both inside and outside the curriculum, that support such endeavors.

BTtoP may consider well-being seminar grant proposals up to $3,000 for applications involving consortia institutions to offer inter-connected seminars held over the course of the academic year.

Examples of Potential Seminars

  • A campus seminar regarding initial or early campus-wide discussions of the connections of engaged learning and well-being.
  • A research-oriented campus seminar focusing on existing and/or needed evidence related to the well-being of students, particularly traditionally underserved populations.
  • A seminar that strategically examines the understanding and valuing of faculty wellbeing.
  • Consortia seminars could bring together teams of institutional leadership from across campuses or national associations for a collective discussion of engaged learning.

Category II: Well-Being Research Project Grants

Deadline: 1 August 2015

Well-Being Research Project Grants up to $10,000, plus institutional matching, to implement and assess a campus-based two-year research project that gives focused attention to the well-being of students, particularly those traditionally underserved by higher education. Projects should, through the gathering of evidence, provide justification for best practices for deepening and sustaining the institution’s commitment to whole-person development.

Proposals should address how to examine the efficacy of an existing or newly implemented program that connects engaged learning opportunities and the well-being of students, particularly underserved students.

Eligibility Criteria

Institutions awarding baccalaureate degrees, community colleges and equivalent non-US institutions are all eligible. BTtoP’s focus is on undergraduate institutions and populations.

Key Job Responsibilities

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Accuracy and ability to pay attention to details.

Award Information

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must have-
    • Track record and field experience, at a senior level, of managing large scale response strategies in a range of humanitarian crises (natural, conflict, slow onset etc.).
    • Working knowledge and experience of the humanitarian rights framework, including humanitarian law and protection issues. Good knowledge and experience with gender analysis and partnership relations.
    • Experience and knowledge of international humanitarian issues and institutions, sufficient to command the respect of others in the sector and to influence policy decision-making at international levels.
    • Proven experience and knowledge handling security in humanitarian response environments.
  • Other skills-

Prenatally HIV-infected youth in the United States are now routinely surviving into late adolescence and young adulthood with the expectation of several more decades of survival.  With increasing access to antiretroviral globally this same degree of survival is already being seen in low and middle income countries most impacted by the HIV epidemic.

  • NICHD intends to funds $1,500,000 in FY 2016 to fund 3-4 awards.
  • Size of the award is limited to $225,000 direct cost per year.
