Talent Peter van Tilburg Foundation – Youth Development

The Talent Peter van Tilburg Foundation was founded on the 24th of October 1991 in the Netherlands and was named after the father of the founder Mrs. Yvonne Mulder – van Tilburg. The Talent foundation PvT is a small charity fund.

Purpose

Talent foundation supports Talents: individual young people, between 15 and 30 years old, worldwide, who lack opportunities in developing their talents and skills. The Foundation supports them in realizing their dreams. These talents are the stronger individuals living in a poor environment. In the field of sports, arts, culture, and education the Talents are supported in realizing their goals using the set up of small businesses.

Project Criteria

  • only those projects will be supported that are directed to the support of individual people.
  • only for youngsters who do not receive any other type of support.
  • the projects are individual and do not require a large amount of money.
  • the youngster who is eligible for support needs to have a mentor/tutor who supervises his/her progress and welfare (the tutor/mentor will be the contact person/intermediary).
  • the youngster needs to have the sincere intention to utilize the funds as a positive example to his/her social environment and the country.

The Bernard van Leer Foundation is an international grant making foundation based in The Hague which focuses to improve opportunities for children up to age 8 who are growing up in socially and economically difficult circumstances.The foundation also aims to leverage impact by working with influential allies to advocate for young children.

Applicants applying for any of the three categories must have a project that

  • Falls within the area of the category applied
  • well thought-out project plan and financing scheme
  • consciously and responsibly handle money
  • aimed at a sustainable society
  • undertakes activities that may spread further
  • reaches a lot of people or has a major impact
  • inspiring and innovative be
  • a good network and make use of available expertise
  • working on a professional level
  • realistic plans and concrete results
  • at least two other organizations participating in the financing
  • have an independent board or adequate supervision.

How to Apply

Applicants must first read the application criteria for each category to check if their project is eligible. Applicants can then submit their applications via email.

Each applicant will get a response within eight weeks.

Asian Culture

The H.G. Boumeester foundation aims to fund projects that will contribute to an increase of the understanding and thereby conservation of the cultures – with an emphasis on the arts – of

  • There are no geographical restrictions as to the locality of the applicant, but there should be a demonstrable connection between the proposed project and its contribution to the increase of understanding and thereby conservation of the cultures of the countries mentioned above.

Flora & Fauna

The H.G. Boumeester foundation offers support to nature conservation projects in Europe and Africa, giving priority to the following projects over others:

  • Projects intended to the preservation of the flora and fauna of the United Kingdom, the Benelux, Hungary and South-east Africa.
  • Projects that seek to precipitate long-term conservation benefits.
  • Projects that give reason to assume that they can become self-supporting or be able to levy further funds over time.
  • Projects that are initiated and/or executed by volunteers.
  • Projects that pay considerable attention to their educational impact.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The H.G. Boumeester foundation invites individuals, registered charities and organizations that can show a copy of their constitution or set of rules to apply for a grant.
  • The foundation explicitly does not grant applications by institutes or organizations with general objectives.

Rabobank Foundation Supporting Farmers Abroad

The Rabobank Foundation supports farmers abroad by helping them to organise and by giving them access to expertise, funding and markets to sell their product. The fund helps agribusinesses to pre-finance purchase, processing and product sales. The Rural Fund finances sustainable value chains in coffee, cocoa, honey, cotton, spices, nuts, peppers, soya and canned and dried vegetables.

Being established in 1973 in Netherlands, the Rabobank Foundation works to improve “the lives of the underprivileged and disadvantages groups of people in society by providing them with the opportunity to live full and independent lives.” It provides funding to NGOs in which half of its funding support is for projects in Netherlands while the other half is allotted to development interventions in developing countries.

Focus countries

The Rabo Rural Fund operates in the following countries-

  • Africa: Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia
  • Asia: Philippines, India, Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam
  • Latin America: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru.

Grant Size

The Rabo Rural Fund provides short-term finance as working capital to producer organisations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The usual term of such loans is one year. The size of the loan generally varies between €200.000 and €1.5 million.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Foundation supports rural poor in the developing countries. NGOs that work on microfinance and cooperatives are eligible to apply.
  • It also provides funding support to microfinance organizations, operating independently and providing services to the communities.
  • Agribusinesses and cooperatives that have outgrown donations and microcredit but are not yet eligible for standard bank loans can apply for this loan.

Nominations are open for 2016 Commonwealth Youth Awards by Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP) of the Commonwealth Secretariat for Excellence in Development Work.

A total of 16 finalists will be shortlisted from four Commonwealth regional categories: Africa and Europe, Asia, America and Caribbean, and Pacific.

  • Take action for equality between young women and young men
  • Promote peaceful and democratic environment in which human rights flourish

Criteria for Nomination

  • The nominee must have been engaged in their development work for more than 12 months either in a professional or voluntary capacity
  • The nominee must be from a Commonwealth member country
  • The development work must be ongoing and in a Commonwealth member country
  • The nominee should not be older than 29 on 31 December 2016
  • Nominees should give permission for their names to be put forward (if nominated by someone else). Award winners and finalists must agree to take part in publicity and activities generated by the Commonwealth.
  • The development work can be within any number of areas, including agriculture, skills training, arts and culture, environment protection, education, health and well-being, human rights, information and communications technology, journalism and many more areas including sport, science and sustainability.

National Professional Officer in WHO, Uganda

The World Health Organisation (WHO) is currently accepting applications from the eligible applicants for the post of National Professional Officer/Child & Adolescent Health (CAH) based in Kampala, Uganda.

The National Professional Officer will function as the focal point for CAH in the Uganda WCO. The officer will be under the direct supervision of the WHO Representative, but work closely with other units and teams in the country office, Inter country support team (IST) and WHO/African Regional Office in addition to other relevant international, regional and national counter parts to promote WHO’s work on child and adolescent health.

WHO supports countries as they coordinate the efforts of multiple sectors of the government and partners – including bi- and multilaterals, funds and foundations, civil society organizations and private sector – to attain their health objectives and support their national health policies and strategies.

Key Job Responsibilities

The National Professional Officer will perform the following functions-

  • To serve as WHO focal point for Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health activities in the country.
  • To provide technical support and build capacity towards improvement and monitoring of quality of quality of care at all service delivery levels
  • To liaise with, and provide support to all relevant government departments and institutions.
  • Support the adaptations of global and regional policies, strategies, tools and plans for Newborn, child and adolescent health to fit the context of Uganda
  • To promote the update of pre-service and in-service training programmes in the new approaches to promoting early childhood development and management of childhood illnesses.
  • To liaise with other partners, such as UNICEF, World Bank, USAID, and NGOs for better co-ordination of CAH interventions.
  • To promote multi-disciplinary and intersectoral approach to addressing social determinants of health relevant to early childhood development and child survival such as early childhood education, Infant and Young Child Feeding, nutrition, school health education, social and cultural practices affecting children amongst others.
  • To promote operational research on CAH related topics, and to assist national officials at all levels and the community in the development and implementation of such research projects.
  • To support monitoring the progress towards attainment of national and regional targets in reducing newborn and childhood morbidity and mortality and promoting accountability.
  • Provide regular information to WHO and partners on the achievements and challenges of the programme, trends in child morbidity, mortality and causes of child deaths and identify policy recommendations for Ministry of Health
  • Support strengthening the national system to adopt and monitor a core set of adolescent health indicators
  • To prepare quarterly progress reports of activities undertaken and to plan for next quarters’ activities.
  • Supporting implementation of RMNCAH grants
  • Participate in planning and development of funding proposals, and work with partners to ensure effective implementation, monitoring and evaluation of successful grants.
  • Manage financial resources of the unit to achieve the objectives of the country coordination strategy, planning, monitoring and timely, correct and efficient use of financial resources
  • Support implementation of planned activities supported by various projects such as the RMNCAH Trust Fund, Commission on Information and Accountability (COIA) and other joint programs
  • Participate in writing grants implementation progress reports
  • Represent WHO on the national Working group for Grants’ Implementation
  • To perform any other duties assigned by the WHO Representative.

Eligibility Criteria

    • Medical degree from a recognised university.
    • Post graduate degree in Public Health and/or Pediatrics.
    • Excellent knowledge of Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health Programme Management.

SEARCA Graduate Scholarship for Southeast Asians- Study Agriculture & Related Sciences

The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) invites applications for its graduate scholarship (MS and PhD) in agriculture and related fields for Academic Year 2016-2017. Applicants are encouraged to complete the SEARCA scholarship application form and send along with other required documents to the Ministries of Education/Higher Education of their respective countries. The ministries have their own deadline, the deadline for ministries to endorse applications to SEARCA is 30 September 2015.

The graduate scholars’ thesis/dissertation topics must fall within any of the following ISARD priority themes and focus areas:

Financial Support

The scholarship covers stipend, tuition, international and domestic travel allowances, thesis/dissertation support, book allowance, and health insurance.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must belong to one of the countries mentioned above.
  • Applicants must be regular employees of academic, research or government institutions.
  • Applicants can be maximum 35 years of age at the time of application.
  • Applicants field of study must be one of the following – agriculture, biological sciences, fishery, environmental science, statistics, forestry, and social sciences.
  • The applicant’s topic of research for thesis/dissertation must be in line with any of SEARCA’s priority thrusts.
  • Applicants must have sent applications for admission to three of the study posts listed above.

How to Apply

Applicants can submit their accomplished SEARCA Scholarship Application form together with other original application requirements to the Ministries of Education/Higher Education of their respective countries.

Each applicant is required to submit the following documents:

  1. SEARCA Scholarship Application Form (2 copies);
  2. Letter of admission/acceptance from SEARCA-accredited university is highly preferred.
  3. Official transcript of academic records of each degree completed (BS transcript for MS applicants and BS and MS transcripts for PhD applicants);
  4. Certification of employment;
  5. Brief description of the research the applicant plans to conduct for thesis/dissertation.
  6. Two copies of passport-size pictures of the applicant;
  7. Curriculum vitae;
  8. Certification from a medical doctor that the applicant is in good physical and mental health condition and is fit to undertake graduate studies;
  9. Official endorsement from the employer; and

The National Institute of Health is seeking applications to support collaborative translational research projects aligned with NIH efforts to enhance the translation of basic biological discoveries into clinical applications that improve health, encourages high quality science demonstrating the potential to result in understanding an important disease process or lead to new therapeutic interventions, diagnostics, or prevention strategies within the research interests and priorities of the participating NIHInstitutes/Centers (ICs).

The program will provide access for external researchers to the NIH Clinical Center and will leverage the diverse Clinical Center resources, expertise, and infrastructure available to test promising laboratory- and animal-based discoveries with potential implications for disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

Area of Interest

In many cases when conflicts are at the rise, there are a host of socio-economic issues that challenge youth development like unemployment, poor access to education and attraction to violence causing a threat to overall peace.

Avoiding future conflict means drawing positively on the energy and capacity of youth as the leaders of tomorrow’s societies.

Youth employment has jumped to the forefront of the international development agenda, especially with regard to stabilising fragile states.

The provision of jobs and the idea of youth employment are of paramount importance for the stabilisation of fragile post-conflict states. This document: 1) examines key issues related to youth participation in violence; 2) discusses lessons learned in developing programs for at-risk youth; 3) presents a range of program options; and 4) identifies relevant USAID mechanisms and implementing partners.

This toolkit is for anyone who believes passionately in the power of education as a force for good in the world and the right for all children to get a good quality education, no matter where they are and what the circumstances.

If you are just beginning to think about taking action on education, you can work your way through the toolkit from start to finish. But you can also dip in to pick up useful hints or activities to help you carry out your existing plans. We know this toolkit doesn’t cover everything you might need and we’ve tried to sign-post you to other resources where possible.
